Alex Schultz Appointed CDO at Meta

Meta has named Alex Schultz as its first-ever Chief Data Officer. In this role, he will oversee analytics, data science, data engineering, competitive intelligence, and user research, helping place data at the center of Meta’s product and business decision-making. His mandate includes strengthening Meta’s global AI analytics strategy as the company continues investing in data-driven product development.

Schultz has been with Meta, formerly Facebook, since 2007 and most recently served as Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Analytics. Over his tenure, he has held senior leadership roles across growth, analytics, product marketing, internationalization, and consumer marketing. Before joining Facebook, he worked at eBay, where he built experience in digital marketing and online growth.

Why this matters: Meta’s creation of a first-ever Chief Data Officer role signals a more formal executive focus on the data infrastructure behind AI, product experimentation, user research, and competitive intelligence. Schultz’s long tenure across growth, analytics, and marketing makes the move an internal elevation of a leader already closely tied to how Meta scales products and measures performance.
