Anton Groom Appointed CDAO at GE Aerospace

GE Aerospace has appointed Anton Groom as Chief Data and AI Officer. In his new role, Groom will lead the company’s data and artificial intelligence strategy, focusing on harnessing GE Aerospace’s extensive data ecosystem to support the next generation of aerospace innovation. He joins the company as it continues to expand the use of AI across its engineering and aviation operations.

Groom joins GE Aerospace after four years at Merck, where he most recently served as Chief AI Officer and helped advance the company’s enterprise AI strategy, including the development and scaling of its GPTeal generative AI suite. He originally joined Merck to lead its Foundational Automation team, focused on intelligent automation across the organization. Before Merck, Groom spent several years at Walmart in technology leadership roles, most recently leading a digital transformation team delivering automation and AI solutions across the business.

Why this matters: Groom’s appointment signals GE Aerospace is elevating data and AI into a dedicated enterprise leadership function as the company expands AI applications across aviation. With GE Aerospace already applying AI to areas such as design, inspection and operational performance, bringing in a leader with experience scaling enterprise AI at Merck and automation at Walmart could help connect its extensive data assets with broader business and engineering priorities.
