Pinecone has appointed Ash Ashutosh as its new Chief Executive Officer. Ash will focus on growing the company and further expanding Pinecone’s position at the forefront of the category it created. The leadership transition also sees founder Edo Liberty move into the role of Chief Scientist as Pinecone sharpens its focus on the next phase of AI infrastructure growth.
Ashutosh is a veteran entrepreneur and technology operator with a long track record in data infrastructure and enterprise software. He is a three-time founder of Serano Systems, AppIQ, and Actifio, companies that were later acquired by Vitesse, HP, and Google, respectively. Most recently, he served at Google, following Actifio’s acquisition, and his broader career has also included leadership roles at HP and Greylock Partners.
Why this matters: This appointment signals that Pinecone is moving from category creation to scaled market expansion. Bringing in an operator with deep experience in data infrastructure, enterprise growth, and multiple successful exits suggests the company wants to strengthen commercial execution while consolidating its leadership in the vector database market as enterprise AI adoption accelerates.
