Donald Chesnut Appointed CDO at Candescent

Candescent has announced the appointment of Donald Chesnut as its new Chief Design Officer. In his new role, Chesnut will guide how Candescent develops and delivers digital experiences for its bank and credit union clients, with a focus on improving design-led innovation across the company’s platform. The appointment comes as Candescent continues expanding its digital banking experience capabilities for more than 1,300 financial institutions and roughly 30 million end users.

Before joining Candescent, Chesnut was Executive Vice President and Chief Experience Officer at Mastercard, where he built enterprise design and customer experience capabilities and helped launch products including Click to Pay and Digital Debit. Earlier in his career, he led Publicis’ global customer experience and design organization, where he helped create the AI-based collaboration platform Marcel. His broader background also includes work guiding product and experience design for brands such as Disney Parks, Target, The Wall Street Journal, U.S. Bank, and RBS.

Why this matters: This appointment signals that Candescent sees design as a strategic differentiator, not just a product function, in digital banking. Bringing in a leader with experience across Mastercard, Publicis, and major consumer-facing brands suggests the company wants to sharpen customer experience, strengthen platform usability, and compete more aggressively on the quality of digital engagement it delivers to financial institutions.
