Garth Gibson Appointed CTAIO at VDURA

VDURA has announced the appointment of Garth Gibson as its first Chief Technology and AI Officer. In this new role, Gibson will lead the company’s technology vision as it works to reinvent the storage stack for AI and high-performance computing workloads. The appointment comes as VDURA expands its positioning in AI and HPC infrastructure.

Gibson is widely known as a co-inventor of RAID and a pioneer of parallel file systems. Most recently, he served as President and CEO of the Vector Institute, and he is also the founder of Panasas, the storage company that later became VDURA. His background combines academic research, storage systems innovation, and executive leadership across both research and industry.

Why this matters: Appointing Gibson as the company’s first technology and AI chief signals that VDURA is leaning hard into technical differentiation at a time when AI infrastructure vendors are competing on performance, scalability, and data movement efficiency. Bringing back the founder of Panasas and a recent AI institute CEO suggests VDURA wants to pair deep storage architecture expertise with a sharper AI-era product strategy.
