Balena has appointed Leon Hurst as Chief Executive Officer, effective September 15, 2026. He succeeds the company’s three former co-CEOs, who will transition into new executive leadership roles. Hurst will focus on expanding enterprise adoption, accelerating Balena’s Edge AI roadmap and strengthening platform reliability, security and developer experience as the company scales beyond 850,000 managed devices across 600 global customers.
Hurst brings more than two decades of international leadership experience across technology, SaaS and mobility. Most recently, he served as an Independent Operating Partner at Crescere Partners, following more than three years as Chief Operating Officer at Flock. Previously, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the IMS Fleet Division and Chief Commercial Officer at JATO Dynamics. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles at Jaguar Land Rover and Nokia, building experience across connected vehicles, enterprise software and technology-enabled services.
Why this matters: Hurst’s appointment marks a shift toward dedicated executive leadership as Balena moves to expand its enterprise footprint in IoT and Edge AI.
