F5 has announced the appointment of Michael Montoya as its new Chief Technology Operations Officer. In this role, he will lead the enterprise-wide strategy and execution to further embed security into every aspect of how F5 operates. The appointment brings a seasoned cybersecurity and operations executive into a role that sits at the intersection of technology, resilience, and business execution.
Before joining F5’s executive team, Montoya served as Chief Operating Officer at BlueVoyant, where he was responsible for product, engineering, and operations. Earlier in his career, he held Chief Information Security Officer roles at Equinix and Digital Realty, and also held senior leadership positions at Microsoft, FireEye/Mandiant, and EMC. He additionally served on F5’s Board of Directors before transitioning into this operating role.
Why this matters: Bringing in a leader with operating and security credentials from BlueVoyant, Equinix, and Digital Realty signals that F5 is elevating security from a functional priority to an enterprise operating principle. In infrastructure and application security markets, where trust, resilience, and execution are increasingly inseparable, this appointment suggests a stronger push to hardwire security into how the company builds, runs, and scales its business.
