SEI has appointed William Coffey as Chief Data Officer. In this role, he will lead the company’s enterprise data strategy and oversee the development of a unified data and AI framework. He will also focus on activating SEI’s data assets while ensuring the governance and security foundations needed to support internal transformation and future client-facing opportunities.
Coffey brings experience across technology, operations, data, and risk leadership. Most recently, he served as Chief Risk and Data Officer at AKUVO. He previously held senior leadership roles at WSFS Bank and Vanguard, where he worked across data strategy, risk management, cybersecurity, technology strategy, and operational effectiveness.
Why this matters: SEI’s appointment of a dedicated Chief Data Officer reflects the growing importance of enterprise data architecture in financial services, especially as firms move from AI experimentation to governed, scalable execution. By placing data strategy, AI readiness, governance, and data monetization under focused leadership, SEI is positioning data as a core layer of its operating model and client innovation strategy.
