What’s New in Tech

  • Agentic AI needs more than written policies. Gartner notes that AI agents can execute multistep workflows, modify system states, and act autonomously at machine speed. The real issue is the gap between written policies and the runtime controls needed to enforce them.
  • Governance is moving into the operating environment. Traditional governance relies on approvals, static policies, and after-the-fact oversight. Agentic AI needs controls embedded directly into the operational environment so agents can work safely within clear boundaries.
  • AI security is becoming more practical and more urgent. Gartner’s First Takes send a clear message to cybersecurity leaders: strengthen the basics, apply effective mitigations, and prepare for AI-augmented attacks.

1. Agents need identities: Organizations cannot govern autonomous systems they cannot see. Gartner recommends treating every internal and third-party agent as a distinct identity with ownership and access rights.

2. Runtime guardrails are becoming essential: As agents move from generating answers to taking action, leaders need active controls. Gartner highlights circuit breakers, separation between reasoning and execution, and control layers that evaluate actions before execution.

3. AI costs need real-time control: Agentic workloads can consume resources unpredictably. Leaders will need dynamic budgets, automated financial controls, and escalation rules based on risk.

4. Cybersecurity basics still matter: Even as AI changes the threat zone, the immediate leadership move is to strengthen the foundations, test assets, refine incident response, and prepare for faster AI-augmented attacks.

Autonomous IT and the Future of Endpoint Management

In this CXO Spotlight Podcast episode, host Chirag Khanijau speaks with Dennis Kozak, CEO of Ivanti, about why endpoint management may become autonomous before other parts of enterprise IT.

Dennis explains why visibility across devices is now central to both CIO and CISO priorities. The shift is about rethinking how IT operations should work when autonomous systems can take on more of the load.

Why this matters: Autonomous IT changes how enterprises manage risk, cost, service delivery, and IT's operating model.
